Due to the incoming strong storm, out of an abundance of caution, we decided to RESCHEDULE the event. The date is to be determined. Updated 4/3/2023.

Presented by Saint Louis University School of Law, Volunteer Lawyers & Accountants for the Arts (VLAA), and Opera Theatre
Join musician and activist Simon Tam, attorney Mark Sabelman of Thompson Coburn, and VLAA Board President Matt Minder of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner for a conversation about the legal journey of Simon’s band, The Slants. This Asian American dance rock band took a fight for the right to trademark their band name all the way to the Supreme Court, sparking a powerful story about free speech – a story that is now the focus of a world premiere opera in St. Louis. Find more information on VLAA’s event page.
This event isn't sponsored by MAABA, but we couldn't be more delighted that Simon Tam is coming and that SLU LAW, VLAA and the Opera Theater are presenting this.

NAPABA represents the interests of 60,000 Asian American attorneys, judges, and law students, will be convening our 2023 NAPABA Convention in Indianapolis this November 2-5. As an organization with civil rights roots, we look forward to the opportunity to partner and learn from organizations like yours—making direct impact and serving our AAPI and LGBTQ+ communities in the state of IN and beyond. As we look towards our Convention, it is important that we convene, connect, and listen to members of the Hoosier community so we may harness the strength, skill, and passion of the AAPI legal community to advance our collective goals before, during, and after the NAPABA Convention.
To that end, NAPABA has invited us to attend a meet and greet with your fellow community members and NAPABA leaders at the JW Marriott on Sunday, Feb. 12. Please see the invitation below and RSVP here.
