2015 MAABA Torch Bearer Award Recipient
MAABA is honored to announce Daniel Sakaguchi as the 2015 recipient of its Torch Bearer Award. For over a decade, Daniel has championed diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and, in doing so, has advanced opportunities for minorities and elevated MAABA’s profile, both locally and nationally.
Daniel, a partner in Armstrong Teasdale’s Litigation practice group, is a MAABA Past President and currently serves on its Board of Directors. He also currently serves on the Board of Governors for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), of which MAABA is a local affiliate, and co-chairs its Regional Conference Committee.
In 2011, Daniel played an integral role as the Chair of the NAPABA Central Region Conference, the first time MAABA hosted a NAPABA event. On the heels of its success, Daniel played an active role in working with the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City (AABAKC) to bring the NAPABA National Convention, an event that had been traditionally hosted by larger affiliates and held in larger cities on the East or West Coast, to Missouri in 2013. With an estimated 1,500 attendees, the 2013 NAPABA National Convention, aptly themed MOmentum, was considered to be a resounding success.
Recognized by his peers as a Super Lawyer in Missouri, Daniel is an experienced trial lawyer focusing on complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, telecommunications, and insurance matters. He has significant jury and bench trial experience in state and federal courts from California to Missouri to Illinois. Beyond his legal practice, Daniel is deeply committed to various civic activities including Legal Services of Southern Missouri and the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence.
Prior to private practice, Daniel worked as a public defendant in Missouri and California. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). Daniel also earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in German and Comparative Literature and a Master of Arts in German from the University of California, Berkeley.
Daniel has received several awards throughout his career. He has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America®2015. He was also named as a 2014 Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyer®. He was previously recognized as a Super Lawyers® Rising Star for 2010 to 2012. Additionally, he was recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal as one of St. Louis’ 40 Under 40 in 2011.
MAABA thanks Daniel for his service and commitment to MAABA and NAPABA. It is with great pleasure, MAABA presents the 2015 Torch Bearer Award to an exceptional lawyer and person who has represented the Asian American community so well.
